2010 Detroit Tigers Home Opener- April 9, 2010

After going 2-1 at Kansas City to start the 2010 season the Detroit Tigers came home to open against the Cleveland Indians. Jeremy Bonderman got the start for Detroit and pitched 6 2/3 innings of 1 run ball. It looked as if the Tigers were going to win their home opener 2-1 until new closer Jose Valverde, with 2 outs in the 9th, gave up a game tying homerun to Grady Sizemore. The Indians scored another run before the inning was over to take the lead and Kerry Wood shut the Tigers down in the bottom of the 9th to save the win 3-2.
(I didn't save the boxscore, too shellshocked after the loss, but here is the Game Story)

Right fielder Shin-Soo Choo had 2 base hits as the Cleveland Indians staged a dramatic comeback over the Detroit Tigers by a score of 3 to 2 at ComericaPark.
Cleveland had the winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs using 3 hits. After two were out, Grady Sizemore began the Cleveland spurt when he lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'. Asdrubal Cabrera came next and he ripped a base-knock. Cabrera was safe at second on a stolen base. Choo came up and he doubled, scoring Cabrera. Russell Branyan dug into the batters box next, but he struckout.
Cleveland out-hit Detroit for the game, 13 hits to 7. Tony Sipp(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 3 innings. Kerry Wood earned the save, his 2nd. Jose Valverde(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief.
Manny Acta was very happy after the game, 'It's great to come back and win it in your last at bats! Our guys just wouldn't give up. And did you see the fans - one minute they're laughing and screaming down all sorts of unprintable stuff at our guys - the next minute - SILENCE! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this afternoon!'

2010 MLB Season Opener- NY at BSN

April 4, 2010

The team rosters are all updated, spring training is over and the 2010 MLB season got underway tonight with the New York Yankees playing the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
While this bog is supposed to be about the 1950 season, I will post an occaisional update on my 2010 MLB 'play-along'. In tonight's season opener, the Boston Red Sox broke open a tight game by scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning and went on to defeat the New York Yankees 5-1.

Second baseman Dustin Pedroia rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Josh
Beckett dominated striking out 11 New York (AL) batters at Fenway Park where
the Boston Red Sox beat the New York (AL) Yankees by the score of 5 to
1.

Pedroia had a good evening at the plate. He smashed a solo-shot out of the
park in the 4th inning and smashed a two-run homer in the 8th inning. Boston
finished with 8 hits in the victory.

Beckett(1-0) allowed 1 run in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. C.C.
Sabathia(0-1) suffered the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 7 and 1/3
innings.

Terry Francona was asked about the performance of Beckett, 'He had his good
stuff out there tonight. The fans really get into it when the strikeouts
start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more adrenalin.'
