WEB GEMS- Top 6th: Detroit turns a triple play!
The Detroit Tigers batters feasted on the Chicago White Sox pitching at Briggs
Stadium. The final score was a lop-sided 13 to 3.
It was a good day for Detroit thanks to Vic Wertz. He doubled in the 2nd
inning, brought the hometown folks to their feet with a Grand Slammer (his
1st of the season) in the 5th inning and stroked a one-base hit in the 8th
inning. Chicago was out-hit by Detroit, 15 hits to 9.
The win was credited to Virgil Trucks(1-0) who went 7 innings allowing 2 runs.
Mickey Haefner(0-1) ended up with the loss. He allowed Detroit 7 runs in 4
and 2/3 innings of work.
