Chicago fans certainly got their money's worth at Comiskey Park. Billy
Pierce(4-5) pitched a rare no-hitter as the Chicago White Sox toppled the St.
Louis Browns 6 to 1.
Pierce was obviously at the top of his game as he set the St. Louis batters
down like so many dominoes. He walked 4 St. Louis batters. The tension
started to build around the 6th inning. By the 9th inning the crowd was
electrified. Chicago rapped out 12 hits for the afternoon.
Stubby Overmire(4-1) was hit with the loss. He was the victim of a defensive
lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
It took a while to pry Pierce way from his teammates as they all wanted to
show their appreciation and joy. Finally, however, Jack Onslow got to offer
his own congratulations with a big bear hug and the comment, 'That was one of
the best pitched games I have seen in all my years in baseball - Pierce was
masterful out there this afternoon!'
