August 3, 1950 The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers yesterday 5-2 and moved past the Tigers into 1st place in the AL. Allie Reynolds (pictured) went the distance for NY picking up his 14th win. After sweeping Detroit last week in a 3 game series in NY, the Yankees have now won the 1st 2 games of this 3 game series in Detroit. The Tigers have been reeling lately and had been in 1st place since April 23rd before relinquishing the league lead to NY. Detroit is now 4-11 this season versus the Yankees.
